About Me

The Language for the Brain initiative is a culmination of 25 years working in education and the charity sector. It brings my teaching, tutoring, language, people skills and proactive interest in individual and community wellbeing together to highlight language learning as a creative mechanism for promoting brain health through mental stimulation.

I started out as as a Lecturer in Further and Higher education in Cornwall after completing a four-year degree in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Leeds. This included stints at the then Falmouth College of Arts and Camborne School of Mines. Completing a PGCE at Goldsmiths College, University of London I subsequently taught in Greater London before heading off to the University of the Sorbonne, Paris to spend two years working as a Lectrice followed by a year as a Project Coordinator for the Development Directorate of the OECD.

I have run my own language learning business since 2016, tutoring and coaching in French, Spanish & Portuguese to individuals of all ages. Many of my adult learners have started by asking “am I not too late to learn?” or comment “I was never very good with languages at school”.

Completing an ICF accredited course in neurolanguage coaching® gave me a conduit to discover more about the science of learning. Thanks to neuroscientists and their research there is proof that no, it’s never too late to learn. Indeed, my own coachees have proved this to me. In fact, it’s good for the brain; stimulating those neural connections and triggering the circulation of “happy” hormones when delivered in a way which recognises every single one of our brains is different, not just because of our genes but more importantly due to our own individual life experiences.
