Safeguarding Policy

This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of Language for the Brain.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Promote the safety of children and young people
  • Protect children and young people who receive Language for the Brain services
  • Highlight Language for the Brain’s overarching principles that guide its approach to safeguarding and child protection.

Language for the Brain believes in taking a proactive approach to the safety of children and young people whom it tutors. In addition, Language for the Brain believes that a child or young person should never have to experience abuse of any kind. Language for the Brain has a responsibility to promote the wellbeing of all children and young people and to keep them safe.

Language for the Brain recognises that:

  • The welfare of the child is paramount, as enshrined in the Children Act 1989
  • All Children regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual exploitation or identity have a right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
  • Some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences
  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting children and young people’s wellbeing.

Language for the Brain will seek to keep children and young people safe by:

  • Valuing them, listening to and respecting them
  • Using Language for the Brain safeguarding procedures to share concerns and relevant information with agencies who need to know and involving children, young people and parents, families and carers appropriately.
  • Putting in place practical measures to ensure tuition takes place in a safe physical environment.
  • Ensuring that it has up to date Disclosure and Barring checks in place

Language for the Brain provides one to one tuition to children and young people. Therefore, it is the organisation’s policy that if lessons take place on the premises of an Language for the Brain tutor that they are accompanied by a parent or carer. Alternatively, if tuition takes place in a child or young person’s home it is Language for the Brain’s policy that a parent or carer is on site during the course of the tuition.
